Sustainability Expertise & Credentials
Our experience includes:
- Passive design integration from the earliest stages of the project to maximize the benefits of building geometry, structural materials, and site orientation, minimizing the need for add-on sustainability features.
- Collaboration with daylighting consultants to optimize both natural and artificial lighting systems.
- Integration of solar photovoltaic, solar thermal, and geothermal energy systems into building design.
- Radiant heating systems to supplement or replace traditional forced-air climate control systems.
- Integration of graywater systems into site design for water conservation
- On-site wastewater treatment system integration into the design when municipal sewer is not available
- Integration of on-site stormwater retention systems and LA City/ County-requested LID measures into the building and site design.
We have decades of experience with design detailing, material specifications and building massing that addresses specific requirements for single-family home projects in the Very High Fire Severity Zone. Many of our residential projects have been designed using fire prevention strategies and with noncombustible materials such as concrete, metal cladding, and fire rated assemblies.
Integration of wildfire defense systems into building design, which help mitigate wildfire risk by pre-soaking the property and landscape with water or fire retardant in case of a wildfire emergency.
We are up to date with the current fire rebuild codes in Los Angeles City and Los Angeles County, including the requirements and flexibilities related to Like for Like rebuilds. We are currently in the design phase of a post Eaton fire rebuild in Altadena.
