Sustainability Expertise & Credentials
Our principal, Karen Curtiss, is a founding member of the Good Future Design Alliance (GFDA). We have hands-on experience with low-carbon materials, backed by project case studies, and prioritize low-water design; most large remodels include graywater recycling or rainwater catchment. We minimize microplastic runoff through material choices, avoid exterior paint, and are known for naturally daylit design. Whole-house ventilation and optimized operable windows support healthy air. We explore novel delivery methods, including straw bale SIPs panels, CLT, and modular/panelized construction.
Red Dot identifies soil moisture as one of the strongest predictors of fire risk, and our landscape plans are beginning to incorporate moisture sensors. We evaluate cladding materials and roof overhangs to limit ember infiltration, and design resilient landscapes to help protect structures. Climate resiliency, including fire, drought, and sea-level rise, informs our design decisions across projects.
